| "College is about becoming a snob." ~Peter Dula, my Intro to Philosophy prof (otherwise known as the man who caused the most controversial chapel in LMH history my junior year...many of you will remember him) Sometimes, my philosophy class is actually funny. Like pretty much all the time, because despite what you may remember of Peter Dula in that chapel, good or bad, he has a quality sense of humor. Meaning dry....lots of sarcasm. Like that snob quote. He said something like "In high school, you had Britney Spears posters and velvet Elvises on your walls, but college is supposed to change those into Monet prints and such. When you walk into someone's home and they have velvet Elvi, or Elvisi, or whatever on the walls, you know they didn't go to college. College is about becoming a snob, and as a snob, I can tell you that it's not that bad." Then we watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Seriously. After that, he asked us to describe Buffy. We started saying all these intellectual, deep descriptive things, and then he goes, "Isn't anyone going to say she's pretty?" Then he told us that Buffy is moral because she doesn't dance, just like good Mennonite kids. You probably had to be there. |
