Philosophy.

"College is about becoming a snob."  ~Peter Dula, my Intro to Philosophy prof (otherwise known as the man who caused the most controversial chapel in LMH history my junior year...many of you will remember him)

Sometimes, my philosophy class is actually funny.  Like pretty much all the time, because despite what you may remember of Peter Dula in that chapel, good or bad, he has a quality sense of humor.  Meaning dry....lots of sarcasm.  Like that snob quote.  He said something like "In high school, you had Britney Spears posters and velvet Elvises on your walls, but college is supposed to change those into Monet prints and such.  When you walk into someone's home and they have velvet Elvi, or Elvisi, or whatever on the walls, you know they didn't go to college.  College is about becoming a snob, and as a snob, I can tell you that it's not that bad."

Then we watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Seriously.

After that, he asked us to describe Buffy.  We started saying all these intellectual, deep descriptive things, and then he goes, "Isn't anyone going to say she's pretty?"

Then he told us that Buffy is moral because she doesn't dance, just like good Mennonite kids.

You probably had to be there.

I like college.

Just a few of the things I've learned about myself in the first two weeks of college:

1. I really don't deal well with change initially (but then I suddenly got over it. at least for now).

2. I value alone time much more than I thought. I guess being insanely busy and living in a place where it's nearly impossible to find privacy will do that to you.

3. I actually do like getting up early after all.

4. I get involved in way too much stuff (I knew that in high school, but it didn't matter, because I could without going crazy...not so anymore).

5. I worry about the future more than any normal person ever should.

So, that all sounds very negative, but I'm glad I learned those things. Because they are making me better and more mature and independent and all sorts of good things. I hope. Overall, I am having a blast. And I know it will only get better.

p.s. Everyone who criticized me for going to EMU: it is NOT another LMH. Because the singing is actually good. And people don't make fun of the word community. And we LMHers are in fact hanging out with other people.

p.p.s. If you've never heard this song, you should probably do your best to do so sometime.

I would just like to take a moment to announce that a bat flew into my room tonight.  It just flittered around the ceiling while several girls screamed out in the hall, until some random boys came by and one of them hit it with a tennis racket.  It died.  I hope no bats every fly into my room again.

I'm tired.

Well, I almost made it through preseason completely intact...my hamstrings are not in such good shape but they will get better soon (I hope)...the rest of the freshmen come tomorrow and I can't wait!

I am in such a random mood.
